Russian President Vladimir Putin stripped to his bathing trunks and took a dip in the freezing waters in the Moscow region on Tuesday, as a part of the traditional celebration of the Orthodox Epiphany.
Putin's spokesperson Dmitri Peskov earlier commented that the event is a tradition for the Russian leader.
The traditional bathing ritual is held at night from January 18 to 19 when it is believed that the water can not only purify the body but also cure diseases, cleanse the soul and strengthen faith.
Epiphany marks the baptism of Christ on January 19, in accordance with the Julian calendar of the Russian Orthodox Church.
